Fogo Island Arts Weekend 2019 Map

Fogo Island Arts (FIA) held its inaugural Arts Weekend, May 16-19, 2019.

Hosted by FIA Strategic Director Nicolaus Schafhausen and Shorefast co-founder Zita Cobb, the Arts Weekend featured a selection of distinguished speakers including New York Times art critic Jason Farago, artist Liam Gillick, Süddeutsche Zeitung art critic Catrin Lorch, and curator Defne Ayas.

The weekend also opened a new exhibition at the Fogo Island Gallery by celebrated Canadian painter Brenda Draney. In addition to attending the gallery opening, Arts Weekend visitors had the opportunity to visit the studios of FIA artists-in-residence: Niko Abramidis & NE (2019 Ars Viva winner), Eleni Bagaki, and Po Rodil.

Furthermore, upwards of 15 local artists, craftspeople, and performers shared their work in contexts that included open studio visits, site-specific interventions, occupations of heritage buildings, performances, and independent exhibitions. Participating artists and groups include Marc Fiset, Erin Hunt, M’Liz Keefe, Mona Quilts & Jams, Linda & Winston Osmond, Bruce Pashak, Dale Payne, Carol Penton, Mike Penton, Shorefast Architecture Team (Kingman Brewster & Dihua Wei), Caitlyn Terry, Tidal Art Studios, TRACS Residency, Winds & Waves, Adam Young, and more.
