Fogo Island Film: Resistance and Resilience is devoted to international films that consider the diversity of relationships between nature and society. Now in its second year, Fogo Island Film features 10 screenings and special events held from May through November at the Fogo Island Inn Cinema. The program will culminate in two Festival Weekends on Fogo Island and in St. John’s featuring highlights from the series and invited guests in conversation around the themes of the program.

Fogo Island Arts (FIA) will offer the 2020 recipients of the prestigious ars viva Prize for Visual Arts a residency on Fogo Island as part of a special partnership, now in its fourth year, with Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI e. Fogo Island Arts Weekend 2019

Fogo Island Arts (FIA) announces its inaugural annual Arts Weekend, May 16-19, 2019.

Hosted by FIA Strategic Director Nicolaus Schafhausen and Shorefast co-founder Zita Cobb, the Arts Weekend will feature a selection of distinguished speakers including New York Times art critic Jason Farago, artist Liam Gillick, Süddeutsche Zeitung art critic Catrin Lorch, and curator Defne Ayas.
 
The weekend will also open a new exhibition at the Fogo Island Gallery by celebrated Canadian painter Brenda Draney. In addition to attending the gallery opening, Arts Weekend visitors will have the opportunity to visit the studios of FIA artists-in-residence: Niko Abramidis & NE (2019 Ars Viva winner), Eleni Bagaki, and Po Rodil.
